Transdisciplinary Collaboration: Overcoming Challenges in Culture and Communications to Facilitate Health Professions Education

Tue, Nov 3, 1:00 to 1:45pm EST (1:00 to 1:45pm EST), Virtual AECT, Grand3

Short Description

With today’s increasing demands on healthcare practitioners, the popularity of education specialists continues to grow as evidenced by the projected increase in job growth and jobs openings for instructional designers in colleges of medicine, nursing, and other health professions (Love, Anderson, & Haggar, 2020). However, differences in values, beliefs, customs, and behaviors, may impede teamwork necessary to facilitate health professions education. During this interactive session, a panel of health professions educators and instructional designers will discuss how they bridged gaps in culture and communications to facilitate transdisciplinary collaboration. Panelists will first provide a short description of their background and collaboration. A discussant will ask a series of pointed questions, facilitate dialog among panelists and the audience, and end the session by summarizing key points, and opening the floor to questions by session participants.
