A process-model for minimizing adverse effects when using head mounted display-based virtual reality for individuals with autism

Tue, Nov 3, 10:30 to 11:45am EST (10:30 to 11:45am EST), Virtual AECT, Grand4

Short Description

Virtual reality using head-mounted displays has attracted substantial interest as an intervention modality for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. However, an ethical conundrum is presented in the use of technology with a vulnerable population that is known to cause adverse effects (e.g., eye strain, nausea, etc.). This session describes how researchers developed methods to reduce adverse effects and presents the synthesis of these approaches as an implementation framework to guide future research and practice.
