First Principles of Instruction Revised Edition published by AECT (2020) is a completely rewritten version of Dr. Merrill's 2013 book originally published by Pfeiffer. This revised edition illustrates and explains these principles in a way that facilitates their use as a guide for designing more effective, efficient, and engaging instruction. In this presentation Dr. Merrill will revisit the First Principles of Instruction and the Pebble-in-the-Pond model of instructional design as portrayed in this revised edition, discuss this revised guide for instructional design, and respond to questions, observations, and concerns about this approach.
