Preservice Teacher Reactions to Inservice Teacher Experience during COVID-19: Concern. Technology. Hope.

Sat, Nov 7, 3:00 to 4:15pm EST (3:00 to 4:15pm EST), Virtual AECT, Grand3

Short Description

Teacher preparation programs had to quickly pivot to remote learning and modify course requirements amid the COVID-19, leaving providers across Pennsylvania scrambling to provide instruction for teacher candidates. Our university was barred from experiential learning experiences for safety measures. Yet, a key aspect of pre-service teacher (PST) learning is in the experience of being in the classroom, putting theory into practice (Eyler, J. S., 2009; Kuh & O'Donnell, 2013). One alternative learning experience sought to bring PSTs together with inservice teachers using Zoom and a Google survey so that PSTs could hear directly about teacher experiences presented by emergency remote learning. The results shed light on what institutions may want to consider in teacher preparation programs with the changing landscape.
