Designing formal and informal learning environments for Transmedia Making

Mon, Nov 2, 7:30 to 8:30am EST (7:30 to 8:30am EST), Virtual AECT, Gallery Walk

Short Description

This poster presents a framework for designing formal and informal learning environments that support media-inspired making. Two case studies are presented to test the framework, a kindergarten classroom and a summer-camp, that utilize PBS Kids media as inspiration for Maker activities. Qualitative analysis of video observations were used to find that engagement of adults, and design of the media and maker activities, played an essential role in educational content comprehension, creativity, and improvisation in the process of transmedia making.
