Designing for Productive Failure Design in Open-Ended Problem Settings

Mon, Nov 2, 7:30 to 8:30am EST (7:30 to 8:30am EST), Virtual AECT, Gallery Walk

Short Description

The epistemic interest driving this proposal is to contribute to ongoing efforts and growing work on Productive Failure as a learning design with applicability to diverse open-ended problems. To this end, a debugging mini-curriculum for Scratch leveraging Kapur’s (2008) Productive Failure learning design is proposed as a design solution to understand how such a design solution could support learning of computational concepts. Design Based Research methodology will be used to design the debugging mini curriculum for Scratch that will eventually be implemented with middle and high school students.
