Infrastructuring Culturally-Situated Design Research in Education

Mon, Nov 2, 10:30 to 11:45am EST (10:30 to 11:45am EST), Virtual AECT, Grand Web

Short Description

Design research is a genre of inquiry in which the iterative
development of solutions to authentic challenges in context provides the
setting for scientific investigation. Educational design researchers collaborate
with practitioners to analyze the problems being tackled, and to develop and
refine solutions, which are informed by (formative) evaluation along the way.
This work is multifaceted, requiring the investigators to serve as consultants
and designers, as well as researchers. If design research is to realize its
potential for engendering (knowledge about) culturally-responsive learning
environments, then explicit attention must be given to the infrastructure that
can support such multi-faceted work. This presentation discusses core design
research processes, along with the roles and competencies they require, before
turning to the human, material, and structural features of the environment that
can increase the impact of design research endeavors.
