Full Session: Concurrent Session
The IDT Professors Forum is an annual gathering sponsored by the Design and Development Division. We invite all professors (tenure-track, adjunct, or clinical) who teach design and development to join us.
This year’s topic will focus on social injustices in the context of instructional design and educational technology. In June 2020, AECT released a statement expressing commitment to supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, acceptance, and universal human rights. We hope to have open and honest conversations about issues the field has faced, how we have addressed or failed to address concerns, and what we can do in the future to better support all learners in their pursuit of equitable learning experiences. Our goal is to learn from each others’ collective experiences in order to better prepare ourselves and our students to actively work towards the elimination of injustices of all kinds.
This year’s IDT forum will start with a panel of experts who research issues of social justice in education. Each expert will present some brief thoughts and then the panel will take questions from participants in the forum. We will then create breakout groups to discuss how we, as a faculty, can actively address the structural, institutional, and sociocultural barriers impacting our learners. Groups will discuss what this means for designing and teaching our courses as well as how it can inform our research activities. We also hope that we can curate some strategies or points to consider with respect to course design or research aligned with principles of social justice. This information will be shared with the AECT membership through the Design & Development’s website and social media accounts.
