This work in progress addresses the specialized, concrete knowledge that designers need to bridge between declarative knowledge built through generalizable research and effective solutions that, for instructional designers, are intended to impact student learning. Interviews have been conducted with practicing designers to investigate the ways in which precedent knowledge is built, stored and used. This knowledge is difficult to articulate, but it is a major contributor to our designs and should be understood in detail.
