Elementary Teachers’ Understanding and Beliefs about Systems Thinking

Fri, Oct 28, 8:20 to 8:35am PDT (8:20 to 8:35am PDT), Conf Center, Sunset 4

Short Description

We present results from a study of elementary teachers' understanding of and beliefs about integrating systems thinking in instruction. Analysis of the Likert scale and open-ended survey responses indicated teachers (n=41) had limited understandings of systems and systems thinking and low confidence for teaching systems thinking. However, they endorsed including systems thinking into instruction. Results suggest a need for professional development to support teachers’ understanding and beliefs about systems thinking.
