In this presentation I report a case study of some unplanned, emergent methods an instructional design team employed when an unexpected issue arose while designing an educational simulation. Through my research I observed how team members came to agree on specific details about the simulation without resorting to any explicit requirement definition or decision-making processes. As part of the presentation, I will discuss implications of these observations for understanding instructional design as a field.
