This study explored whether the use of an abbreviated version of the Statistical Anxiety Rating Scale (STARS) could be used as a pre-assessment tool to gauge learners’ initial statistics anxiety in a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on power and sample size analysis. Results from the EFA and CFA analyses provide evidence of the instrument’s validity and reliability, suggesting that a short version can be used in the context of MOOCs.
