Scholars have found a high potential of learning with high-immersion virtual reality (VR). However, learning in VR is associated with intense stimuli, thus provoking cognitive overload. This within-media, mixed methods study examines the impact of scaffolding on learning in VR. The study further investigates to what extent scaffolding affects students' cognitive load. Performance tests, an online survey, and post-intervention interviews provide insights on how students perceive learning with and without scaffolds in VR.
