This qualitative study reports a motivational needs assessment for wheelchair users situated in a VR game-based learning (VRGBL) environment for developing introductory archeological skills. The motivational needs are grounded in the ARCS motivational design model. A thematic analysis based on four participants reveals that participants were mostly concerned with their capabilities in the VRGBL as wheelchair users, which are largely grounded in their perceptions towards VR systems’ inaccessibility and their personal experiences as wheelchair users.
