Existing definitions of games are unable to successfully distinguish between serious games and academic activities. They either rule out any form of game for purposes other than entertainment or focus on scorekeeping elements which would define any academic assessment as a game. This session focuses on a discussion of what is and is not a game by comparing existing definitions with common games and game-like activities. Additionally, a new definition of games is proposed.
