Emerging research trends in online/virtual learning environments envisage an increasing need for culturally inclusive instructional design. The Online Wisdom Communities (WisCom) framework embraces cultural diversity as a powerful pedagogical approach to foster learning engagement and knowledge construction. The purpose of this design-based research study is to examine the application and effectiveness of WisCom through a graduate-level online course, particularly regarding the dimensions of both community-building and knowledge-building based on the negotiation of online discourses.
