Culturally-Relevant Computing: A Good Idea But How?

Fri, Oct 28, 9:30 to 9:45am PDT (9:30 to 9:45am PDT), Conf Center, Sunset 5

Short Description

This presentation shares a qualitative study examining how in-service Computer Science (CS) educators, working in a diverse multicultural context, think about culturally-relevant computing. Using focus group interviews (n = 10), researchers investigated the extent to which educators in Hawai'i value culturally-relevant computing and how they approach making CS lessons culturally relevant for students. Detailed findings and recommendations will be discussed and of interest to practitioners and researchers interested in CS education and/or culturally-relevant pedagogy.
