This qualitative study investigates online students’ perception about online instructor roles and competencies based on their online learning experiences from multiple online courses. This study is a segment of a larger investigation about students’ feelings and experiences in online learning. The interview data from 27 graduate students was analyzed to identify students’ perception about online instructor roles and their unmet needs through four dimensions of online instructor roles: pedagogical, managerial, technical, and social.
