Establishing a Virtual Field Experience

Virtual field experiences are necessary to accommodate placement shortages and disruptions. This study examined 66 preservice teachers’ perceptions of a 15-week virtual field experience. Focus groups revealed three themes: initial eagerness to participate; inept technology made it difficult to learn; preferences for implementation. Findings insinuate virtual field experiences should include careful selection and placement of high-quality video systems that align with course objectives. Implications apply to those looking to embed virtual observations.
