Comparison of the Emotional Responses of Pre-service and In-service Teachers in a Teaching Simulation

Tue, Oct 25, 2:10 to 2:25pm PDT (2:10 to 2:25pm PDT), Virtual, Online B

Short Description

This study investigates the effect of teaching experience and scenario cycle on users’ emotions in a teaching simulation. Participants interacted with a student avatar that provided progressively high-intensity behaviors over a scenario cycle. The participants’ facial expressions were analyzed as emotional values. The results show that in-service teachers perceived joy as a facial expression more often than the pre-service teachers. Moreover, there was a difference in the users’ surprise reaction based on the scenario cycle.
