Short Description

This study will use online self-report surveys and interviews to examine the process of how social media features and functions (e.g., comments, reaction, hashtags) influence early adolescents’ social and emotional competencies (e.g., the ability to express feelings and maintain positive relationships with others). Constructivist grounded theory by Charmaz (2014) will be conducted to explore the process of how American early adolescents use the features and functions of social media to achieve successful peer interactions.
