Despite the generally agreed-upon goals of improving instruction and student learning, instructional designers who work in faculty development often find conflicting evidence about how to design for faculty learners (Bali & Caines, 2018; Mohr & Shelton (2017). In this session, we expand upon Pacansky-Brock’s (2020) principles of humanizing online learning to remedy some of the conflicts and to help designers balance the competing needs of personalized faculty support and standardized institutional professional development.
