Forms of Computer-Based Scaffolding in Engineering Education: A Meta-Analysis

Tue, Oct 25, 4:30 to 4:45pm PDT (4:30 to 4:45pm PDT), Conf Center, Sunset 3

Short Description

Computer-based scaffolding has been used to increase the cognitive outcomes of students facing rigorous ill-structured problem solving activities in collegiate level engineering courses. No meta-analysis has estimated the effects of the various forms of computer-based scaffolding interventions in order to prescribe which combinations of computer-based scaffolding features produce the highest learning gains in engineering students. This random effect meta-analysis demonstrates that computer-based scaffolding in engineering education positively affects (g = 0.48) on cognitive outcomes.
