While debugging is a critical application of computational thinking (CT), it has not been getting enough attention in CT research studies in higher education. This exploratory qualitative study aims to identify students’ debugging challenges in Scratch, a block-based programming language. We analyzed students' coding journals through open-coding and convenient content analysis. The findings show the most challenging block categories and challenges from debugging projects. We also suggest some pedagogical strategies to support teaching and learning computational thinking skills through debugging activities.
