02. CLT- Beyond Technological Usability: Sociocultural Considerations of a Web-based Learning Intervention for Teens with Brain Conditions

Mon, Oct 24, 3:50 to 5:20pm PDT (3:50 to 5:20pm PDT), Conf Center, Celebrity 4

Short Description

Most usability research focuses on technological usability, which has been criticized as insufficient for evaluating learning technologies. Therefore, we describe how we performed a sociocultural usability evaluation with two Spanish-speaking experts. Experts reviewed the Spanish version of a learning intervention for adolescents with brain conditions. Participants reported overall positive user experiences despite significant problems not present in the English version. Implications for designing interventions in healthcare contexts for specific communities (rural, inner-city, immigrant) are discussed.
