Virtual field experiences can be an effective alternative to actual field experiences, but effective design of such an alternative calls for a better understanding of student learning outcomes and perceptions. This case study examines student learning outcomes and perceptions of two formats of virtual field experiences (websites vs. 360 degree videos) redesigned with authentic learning principles in consideration. Students post-experience reflections and survey data are used to extrapolate their learning and experience in the two settings.
