This qualitative case study investigates students’ emotional engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic emergency remote learning (ERL) as well as students’ perceptions of their technology use in a Chinese language class during ERL. The results show that technology had played an important role in students’ emotional engagement, either positively or negatively. This research also raises future practical implications for teachers and institutions in ERL regarding promoting positive emotional engagement.
