This session describes the process of the development and validation of an instrument that measures students’ perceptions of community (and the activities that support it) in online programs at the program and institutional level. Elements of the scale include the importance of online community, program and institutional activities (both academic and social) that support community, and affiliation. Results indicate the scale is a valid and reliable instrument that may be used by practitioners and researchers.
