Promoting Blended Learning Through Effective Discussion Design: The Combined Effects of Role Assignment and Timing

Short Description

This proposal reports a study on promoting meaningful asynchronous online discussions (AOD) in blended learning. The influence of role assignment and timing on AOD is explored through a two-level factorial experiment. The results showed that the role assignment strategy enhanced AOD’s learning experiences and social interaction in the blended course. Timing affected the capacity of acting and participation degree of different roles in role-based discussions. However, there was no significant interaction between the two strategies.
