Some new research methods aim to curate different forms of knowledge and insights beyond traditional quantitative research studies. As a result of expanded efforts in this area, editors of related journals have observed persistent confusion among authors surrounding these methodologies, often confounding these methods with traditional case studies. In this session, we will cover four methodologies – design cases, case studies, design-based research, and formative evaluations – to clarify for authors and provide definitions, exemplars and guidance.
