Being engaged in the learning process is the direct pathway to cumulative learning, long-term achievement, and eventual academic success. This study investigates various dimensions of learner engagement manifested in asynchronous online discussions (AODs) in an online course offered for military graduate learners. Content analysis and social network analysis (SNA) were conducted exploring patterns and levels of learners’ behavioral, cognitive, and affective engagement. Suggestions for the instructional design are discussed.
