Short Description

Well-designed instruction incorporates learner interactions. High-quality learning therefore can be evidenced by the quantity and quality of learner interactions. Learner interaction, described by Transactional Distance Theory, is characterized as: learner-learner, learner-instructor, and learner-content. This session presents a validated observation instrument designed to track the quantity of these three types of learner interactions during face-to-face and/or online instruction. The validation process and thoughts on use of the instruments for research and design practices will be discussed.
