Unlike other software, video games come packaged with a tutorial that quickly teaches players about the affordances, interactions, and limitations of the game. In this study, we analyzed the micro- and macro-level structures associated with six video game tutorials to gain insight into how these tutorials work so efficiently. We then developed a framework for designing tutorial-like experiences that can be applied to the training of other software tools (e.g., Adobe products).
