With recent changes in national board exams, students’ use and perception of 3rd party commercial resources must be understood to successfully integrate their use for facilitating medical education. This study utilized a survey based on Keller’s ARCS Model of Motivational Design, ethnographic interviews, and student learning logs to triangulate data on the use and perceptions of first-year medical students. Study methods and findings are summarized and implications for future research and practice are discussed.
