In this session, the author will share results of a digital ethnography exploring gender performativity in an online classroom. To conduct the ethnography, the author conducted participant observation of an online education technology class, analyzed discussion board posts and journal entries, and interviewed participants. Additional interview and discussion board data was included from other education technology classes. Results indicate that how students portray and perceive gender impacts and is impacted by interpersonal power systems.
