This paper describes a metacognitive instructional intervention designed to support learning, and how various types of task knowledge are related to performance on a simulation vignette. Specifically, this paper explores how knowledge can be better integrated through Metacognitive Prompts, how variations in assessment of types of knowledge (i.e., recognition, declarative, conceptual) may improve understanding of knowledge integration, and how assessments via task-relevant simulation vignettes require the synthesis of multiple types of knowledge.
