The need for hands-on experiences in engineering is often in conflict with large class size and limited space. Virtual reality (VR) offers potential solutions to this challenge but requires commitment to learner experience design (LXD) to ensure students accomplish intended learning outcomes. We will share details of an application created by an undergraduate student group we advised, and present preliminary data from its implementation in a machine design course. Bonus: Come assemble a virtual gearbox!
