Education research involves complex human interaction that cannot always be explained in simple terms. This mixed-methods research explored interactions between online students and their teaching assistants (TAs). The TAs participated in a training program encouraging proactive and holistic approaches to student support. Analysis reports teaching TAs to be proactive and holistic helps them support and interact well with students. This presentation highlights TA and student interactions and the importance of mixed-methods to understand interactions.
