84. The Road to Knowledge Co-Construction: Observational learning with Peers in Large-Enrollment Online Courses

Sun, Oct 15, 4:15 to 5:45pm EDT (4:15 to 5:45pm EDT), Doubletree Main Conference Center - Seminole, Seminole Ballroom

Short Description

Today’s technologies enable various ways of creating videos, such as “talking heads”. However, videos are surprisingly uniform in terms of the format of presentation: monolog style of lecturing. Monolog presentation leads to a passive and less effective learning experience. To increase student engagement, this presentation showcases an empirical study conducted in an online large-enrollment biology course that compares and explores the effectiveness of collaboratively watching dialog videos and that of collaboratively watching monolog videos.
