Preparing Elementary Teachers for Computer Science Instruction: A Randomized Control Study

Wed, Oct 18, 8:00 to 8:50am EDT (8:00 to 8:50am EDT), Doubletree Courtyard Conference Center, Mangrove

Short Description

Results of a mixed-methods randomized control trial indicated significant improvement in elementary teachers’ computer science (CS) self-efficacy following professional development (PD, n = 16) compared to a control group (n = 21 teachers) who did not participate in PD. There was no difference between treatment and control teacher CS knowledge or implementation after controlling for pre-scores. Teacher perceptions of PD and needed support were identified. Implications for future research and implementation of CS PD are discussed.
