This study and subsequent presentation examine the heuristics and characteristics that instructional designers with different levels of expertise think are important for carrying out their job duties and thereby better understanding how their perceived importance changes as they gain experience and education. This study also aims to clarify how heuristics and other characteristics relate to the competency models that establish the standards for the field.
