This presentation considers how learning experience design (LXD) complements common approaches found in traditional instructional design (ID). We do this by showing what LXD offers designers as they support learners along their journey from novice to expert. We report how LXD (a) attunes designers to different kinds of learning affordances than are emphasized in traditional ID; (b) challenges the universal applicability of common ID techniques; and (c) expands designers’ views of their intended outcomes.
