This study examined the impact of badge-sharing gamification features in a mobile vocabulary learning application on second language (L2) learners’ self-regulated learning (SRL) and learning persistence. This quasi-experimental study (n=41) divided participants into two groups: the experimental group was encouraged to share the badge within social media verse the control group was not. Results found that the experimental group had an increased SRL level and learning persistence level, though the difference was not statistically significant.
