14. Challenges and Needs of International Graduate Teaching Assistants

Sun, Oct 15, 4:15 to 5:45pm EDT (4:15 to 5:45pm EDT), Doubletree Main Conference Center - Seminole, Seminole Ballroom

Short Description

Universities and colleges hire international graduate students as teaching assistants. While serving multiple tasks, they experience various challenges, including cultural differences and language barriers. Although institutional training is provided, the “one-size fits all” approach does not seem to satisfy their diverse needs. This study focuses on gaining a better understanding of their challenges, professional development opportunities, and learning needs to provide practical implications that can improve the professional support and working conditions for teaching assistants.
