Balancing Education and Entertainment: The Encapsulation Method for Educational Game Design

Thu, Oct 19, 8:00 to 8:50am EDT (8:00 to 8:50am EDT), AECT Virtual Sessions, Zoom Room 5

Short Description

This study proposed an encapsulation method of designing educational game, which is driven by the learning theories. We emphasize the balance between education and entertainment to reduce learning cognitive load. A sample game, Perry’s Game, has been developed based on the proposed design method and procedures. The pilot experiment results suggest that our educational game generated a higher growth in math measurement skills compared to conventional teaching for students in grades 3 to 5.
