Webcam use and multitasking in synchronous classes: “Just keep it focused”

Mon, Oct 16, 10:00 to 10:50am EDT (10:00 to 10:50am EDT), Doubletree Main Conference Center - Seminole, Sun & Surf IV

Short Description

This mixed-methods study explores student multitasking and webcam use in synchronous online classes. An online survey was used to determine the relationship among multitasking behaviors, self-efficacy beliefs, and tendencies, and see whether they differ among students who prefer to keep their webcams on or off. Interviews were used to better understand the relationship between multitasking and webcam behaviors. Findings suggest that multitasking during class is not related to self-efficacy beliefs or tendencies, but personal choice.
