60. Social Presence is Not Community: An Investigation into Related Concepts in the Online Learning Literature

Sun, Oct 15, 4:15 to 5:45pm EDT (4:15 to 5:45pm EDT), Doubletree Main Conference Center - Seminole, Seminole Ballroom

Short Description

Researchers have highlighted the importance to define and differentiate between terms like social presence, rapport, sociability, connection, connectedness, belonging, and community. However, as COVID-19 increased interest in online learning, we have found key concepts continue to be treated as if they are the same. Working from previous research, we have been investigating how researchers define related but different concepts in order to provide clarity for future research and practice of online learning.
