101. The Effects of Immersive Virtual Reality in Providing Biomedical Engineering Laboratory Training

Sun, Oct 15, 4:15 to 5:45pm EDT (4:15 to 5:45pm EDT), Doubletree Main Conference Center - Seminole, Seminole Ballroom

Short Description

A pilot study was conducted to examine the effects of immersive virtual reality (VR) in helping Biomedical Engineering students develop biological laboratory safety skills. An in-depth analysis was performed on four participants who received a VR training session, which was followed by a transfer task to a real lab. The preliminary analysis indicated the advantage of VR in effectively developing students’ procedural skills with high fidelity, which also helped to boost their confidence.
