Abstract

This participatory action research project focuses on a secondary physical education field-based methods course. We sought to understand what could be when we worked with pre-service teachers in a high school PE class to assist them in the process of learning to listen and respond to their students in ways that facilitate young people’s interest, motivation, and learning. To develop a theoretical understanding of what happened we utilized grounded theory.
This paper describes a model, student-centered inquiry as curriculum, which includes a cyclical process of Building the Foundation, Planning, Responding to Students, Listening to Respond, and Analyzing the Responses. We describe how utilizing this model allows pre-service teachers to be student-centered and challenge/transform their core pretexts about teaching and learning.
