Maintaining a Focus on Scholarship in Teacher Education: Challenges to Self-Study and to Teacher Education Practice When Being Dean

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the experiences of three deans of education at different stages in their leadership roles by focusing on the business of being dean (much of which is hidden from public view) in relation to personal views and practices that are at the heart of developing scholarship in teacher education and promoting the continuous improvement of practice. The presentation is a unique opportunity for participants interested in self-study research and educational leadership in a university setting to explore the relational, interpersonal practice of teacher education administration.
